A guest room is not lit by one light but by three layers working together, and a good hotel room light design<\/strong> is really the art of balancing them. Understanding the layers is the key to specifying lighting that works rather than a room that is either glaringly bright or uselessly dim.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

The first is ambient<\/strong> light — the general, soft illumination that fills the room, usually from ceiling fittings, cove or perimeter lighting, and the bounced light of lamps. Its job is to let a guest move around comfortably without harshness; the mistake to avoid is a single bright central fitting that flattens the room.
