Why Partition
Partitions earn their place by doing three things a wall used to do, and a good specification is clear about which of the three a given screen is for, because they are not the same job. The first is acoustic — cutting the noise and overheard conversation that wears people down on an open floor; this is the one that needs a sound-absorbing panel, not just a visual barrier. The second is visual privacy — blocking sightlines so people are not on display all day and confidential screens are not readable across the room. The third is zoning — defining where one team ends and another begins, marking out focus areas, meeting space and circulation so a featureless floor becomes a legible one.
The way offices work now has made this more important, not less. Acoustics & Privacy
The most common mistake in specifying partitions is treating a visual barrier as an acoustic one. A fabric-wrapped board hides the person behind it but does almost nothing to the sound travelling over and around it; a true acoustic screen has a sound-absorbing core that takes energy out of the noise, which is a different and more expensive product.
