Overview

Commercial Restaurant Tables

The restaurant table sets the geometry of the whole room. It fixes the cover count, the spacing, the circulation and the rhythm of a service — long before a single chair is placed. And like every other piece on a hospitality floor, it has to take years of daily abuse: hot plates, spilled drinks, constant wiping, and the steady lean of elbows and the shove of chairs. A domestic dining table is not built for that. HFC manufactures a contract range of commercial restaurant tables and café tables — and, crucially, the table tops and table bases that build them — engineered for the duty cycle of a working dining room.

The key to specifying a restaurant table is to treat it as two separate decisions: the top and the base. The top is what guests see, touch and judge, and what takes the heat and the spills — which is why HFC offers it in six contract materials: solid wood, natural veneer, marble, metal-framed, HPL compact laminate and melamine-faced MDF. The base is what keeps the table dead level through years of leaning — almost always cast iron or heavy steel, in column, cross, four-leg or flip-top forms. Get both right and the table is silent and stable; get the base wrong and even a beautiful top rocks under an elbow.

This page is the home of indoor dining and café tables, in round, square and rectangular formats from intimate two-tops to communal long tables. A note on scope, so you land in the right place. The chairs these tables pull up to are on the restaurant chairs page, and we supply full table-and-chair sets coordinated from one factory. Tall bar, poseur and cocktail tables for standing and high-top use are specified with our bistro & cocktail tables, and outdoor restaurant tables for terraces and pavements live in the weather-rated commercial outdoor furniture range. Fixed booth tables are paired on the booths & banquette seating page. This page belongs to the wider restaurant furniture category.

Table Tops

Browse Our Restaurant Table Tops

The top is the decision guests judge. Filter by material to see the contract options — every top is matched to a cast-iron or steel base and made to your shape and size. For marble specifically, this gallery shows the restaurant-grade tops; to browse our full range of finished pieces — coffee, dining, café and side tables — see our marble tables collection.

Two Decisions

The Top and the Base

A restaurant table is two systems bolted together. Specifying each correctly is what separates a stable, long-lived table from a wobbling one.

—  The top — what guests judge: Choose the material for the concept and the duty: solid wood and veneer for warmth and a premium look, marble for luxury, metal-framed for an industrial edge, HPL compact for the toughest, heat- and water-proof surface, and melamine-faced MDF for cost-effective, easy-clean volume.

—  The edge: The edge is where tops chip first. A protected, solid or framed edge is worth specifying on any high-traffic floor.

—  The base — what keeps it level: Cast-iron and heavy-steel bases in column (single pedestal), cross (four-prong), four-leg and flip-top forms. Base mass is matched to top size so the table never rocks under a lean.

—  Flip-top & folding: Flip-top bases let a floor be cleared and reconfigured quickly, or stored for private events — a practical option for flexible rooms.

—  Levelling feet: Adjustable feet correct uneven floors on install — the unglamorous detail that eliminates the classic restaurant wobble.

—  Shape to the room: Round tables soften a space and seat odd numbers well; square two-tops pack efficiently and combine into runs; rectangular and communal tops drive the highest cover density.

The base decides the wobble, not the floor

Most "wobbly restaurant table" complaints come from an under-weighted base and missing levelling feet, not the floor. Matching base mass to top size — and specifying adjustable feet — is the cheapest reliability upgrade you can make.

Top Materials

Six Table-Top Materials Compared

Each top material behaves differently under heat, spills, scratches and constant wiping. Here is how they compare for a restaurant floor.

Top materialLookBest forConsider
Solid woodWarm, premium, naturalFine dining and feature tables; can be sanded and refinished over its life.Needs a sealed finish and a protected edge; heaviest option.
Natural veneerReal-wood grainThe solid-wood look at lower weight and better dimensional stability.Cannot be refinished as deeply as solid; protect the edge.
MarbleLuxurious, cool stonePremium cafés, cocktail and statement tables.Heavy; seal against stains and specify a base rated for the weight.
Metal-framedIndustrial, robustIndustrial concepts and high-knock zones; the frame guards the edge.Pair the panel material to the duty.
HPL compactContemporary, matteThe toughest surface — heat-, scratch- and water-proof; fast-casual and indoor-outdoor.A premium over melamine, repaid in durability.
Melamine-faced MDFClean, wide finish rangeCost-effective, easy-clean volume for fast-casual and cafeterias.Keep edges sealed against moisture ingress.

Match the top to the service, not just the look

A high-turnover café punishing tops with heat and constant wiping is a job for HPL compact or melamine; a slow, refined dining room can carry solid wood or marble. Specify to how the table will actually be used.

Where It Works

Restaurant Tables by Venue

The right top, base and shape change with the concept:

—  Fine dining & hotel restaurants: Solid-wood, veneer or marble tops on solid column bases, sized generously for comfort and a refined, silent feel.

—  Casual dining & bistro: Veneer, metal-framed or solid-wood tops in round and square two-tops that combine into runs for larger parties.

—  Café & coffee shop: Compact marble or HPL two-tops on slim column bases — small, characterful and fast to wipe between guests.

—  Fast-casual & cafeteria: HPL compact and melamine-faced MDF tops on robust four-leg or fixed bases for maximum durability and easy cleaning.

—  Flexible & events rooms: Flip-top bases that clear and store quickly to reconfigure a floor for private functions.

Specification Guide

How to Specify Restaurant Tables

Five checks our hospitality clients run before committing a table order.

1 — Choose the top material for the service

Match the top to the duty: HPL compact or melamine for high-turnover and heat; solid wood, veneer or marble for refined, slower rooms. The look matters, but the service decides what survives.

2 — Match the base mass to the top

The base is what keeps the table level. Specify a cast-iron or heavy-steel base sized to the top, and adjustable levelling feet — this is what eliminates wobble, not the floor.

3 — Size the table to the covers, and to combining

Use the estimator above for a starting count, and choose shapes that combine — square two-tops and rectangulars push together for larger parties and lift density.

4 — Protect the edge

Tops chip at the edge first. Specify a solid, framed or protected edge on any high-traffic floor; it is the difference between a top that looks new for years and one that looks tired in months.

5 — Coordinate height with your seating

Standard dining-table height suits dining chairs; counter- and bar-height tables pair with stools and are specified separately. Confirm the relationship so guests sit comfortably.

FAQ

Restaurant Table Questions

Six contract top materials: solid wood, natural veneer, marble, metal-framed, HPL compact laminate and melamine-faced MDF. Use the filter above to browse each. The right choice depends on the concept and the service — refined rooms can carry solid wood or marble, while high-turnover floors are better served by HPL compact or melamine.

Yes. A restaurant table is a top and a base specified together, and we supply them as a matched pair or separately — useful when you are replacing tops, re-topping existing bases, or standardising bases across a refurbishment. Bases come in column, cross, four-leg and flip-top forms in cast iron and heavy steel.

Wobble almost always comes from an under-weighted base or missing levelling feet rather than the floor. We match base mass to top size and fit adjustable levelling feet so the table sits dead level on install and stays that way under daily leaning. It is the single cheapest reliability upgrade on any table.

Round, square and rectangular, from intimate two-tops to communal long tables, all made to your dimensions. Round tables soften a room and seat odd numbers well; square two-tops pack efficiently and combine into runs; rectangular and communal tops drive the highest cover density. The estimator above helps size the count to your covers.

Chairs are on the restaurant chairs page and we supply full table-and-chair sets. Tall bar, poseur and cocktail tables are with our bistro & cocktail tables; weather-rated outdoor restaurant tables are in the commercial outdoor furniture range; and fixed booth tables pair on the booths & banquette seating page. All coordinated from one factory.

The restaurant table range carries a 2-year contract warranty, with a typical 4–8 week lead time depending on quantity, top material and season. As the manufacturer we sell direct from our Istanbul factory and handle anything from a boutique café to a multi-outlet rollout, FOB from Türkiye or CIF to your nominated port.
