Overview

Commercial Sun Loungers & Pool Sunbeds

The sun lounger is the single most-specified — and most-photographed — item on any resort pool deck. It is also the hardest-working: occupied for hours at a stretch, dragged across hot stone, splashed with chlorinated water, baked by UV and stacked or re-lined every morning by a single attendant. A residential sunlounger will not survive that. HFC builds a dedicated contract range of sun loungers and pool sunbeds — including reclining chaise lounges, poolside loungers, garden recliner chairs and zero-gravity recliners — engineered specifically for the chlorine, salt and sun of a commercial pool environment.

The range covers every way a guest wants to lie in the sun. Textilene sling sun loungers dry in minutes and need no cushion to store; cushioned sun loungers add a softer, more premium feel; zero-gravity recliners (also searched as anti-gravity or no-gravity chairs) cradle the body in a near-weightless recline; and wooden and teak loungers bring a natural, high-end look. Practical contract features — multi-position adjustable backrests, stacking for off-season storage, wheels for fast morning set-up, drainage, and optional sun canopies — are what separate a fleet that lasts five seasons from one replaced every other year.

This page belongs to our wider commercial outdoor furniture range and is the home of all reclining, sunbathing seating. A note on scope: for the premium poolside tier — daybeds and cabanas — see the dedicated Outdoor Daybeds & Cabanas page; for lounge sofas and club chairs in the shaded social zone see outdoor lounge & sofa sets; and for a woven look, rattan and wicker sun loungers are covered on the rattan & wicker furniture page.

Lounger Types

Four Kinds of Sun Lounger

"Sun lounger" covers several distinct products, each suited to a different deck, climate and price tier. Most resorts mix two or three across the property.

Sling

Textilene sling sun loungers

—  What it is: A taut textilene sling stretched over an aluminium frame — no cushion required.

—  Best for: High-turnover pool decks and beach clubs where speed and hygiene matter.

—  Why: Dries in minutes, shrugs off chlorine and salt, stacks for storage.

—  Watch for: Sling tension and stitching are the wear points — specify contract-grade webbing.

Cushioned

Cushioned sun loungers

—  What it is: A sling or mesh base topped with a quick-dry cushioned pad for a softer recline.

—  Best for: Five-star pool decks, spa terraces and premium sunbathing zones.

—  Why: More comfort and a richer look; cushions lift off for storage and cleaning.

—  Watch for: Use quick-dry foam and solution-dyed acrylic, or the cushion becomes a liability.

Zero-Gravity

Zero-gravity recliners

—  What it is: A reclining garden chair that locks into a near-weightless position — the zero-gravity (anti-gravity) recliner.

—  Best for: Wellness and spa areas, adult-only decks, relaxation lawns.

—  Why: Distributes weight evenly for a genuinely relaxing recline; folds for storage.

—  Watch for: Lock mechanism quality — it is the part guests test first.

Wood & Teak

Wooden & teak sun loungers

—  What it is: A wooden or teak sun lounger with a natural, high-end aesthetic.

—  Best for: Luxury resorts, garden sunbeds and design-led properties.

—  Why: Naturally weather-resistant, ages to a refined silver-grey, reads as premium.

—  Watch for: Heavier than aluminium — confirm wheels for repositioning.

Contract Features

What Separates a Contract Lounger

On a commercial pool deck, the details decide whether a fleet of loungers lasts. These are the features our hospitality clients specify by name.

—  Multi-position adjustable backrest: Three to seven recline positions, including flat for tanning — the feature guests use most.

—  Stacking: Stackable sun loungers cut off-season storage and let staff clear a deck for cleaning or events. Confirm stack height.

—  Wheels: Rear transit wheels let one attendant re-line an entire deck each morning — essential on large pools.

—  Drainage & quick-dry: Sling and mesh surfaces, plus drainage in any cushion, keep loungers usable minutes after rain or a splash.

—  Double sun loungers: Twin-width double sunbeds for couples add a premium, rentable option to the deck.

—  Sun canopy: An integrated, adjustable canopy shades the head and face without a separate parasol.

—  Folding & portable: Folding and collapsible loungers suit beach service and seasonal storage.

Stacking and wheels are labour decisionsOn a 200-lounger resort deck, stackability and transit wheels can be the difference between a one-person morning set-up and a three-person one. Specify them up front — they pay back every single day of the season.

Materials

Frames & Surfaces for Poolside Use

A pool deck is the harshest outdoor environment a property owns: chlorine, salt, splashing and unbroken UV. Material choice is the whole game. Here is how the contract options behave.

Material / surfaceBest forWhy it works poolsideWatch-outs
Powder-coated aluminium frameThe contract defaultRust-proof, light enough to move and stack, holds finish under UV.Specify marine-grade coating; cheap coatings chalk and fade.
Textilene sling surfaceSling & high-turnover loungersDries in minutes, resists chlorine bleaching, no cushion to store.Webbing tension and stitching are the failure points.
Quick-dry cushionPremium cushioned loungersAdds comfort; reticulated foam drains and dries fast.Must be quick-dry foam + solution-dyed acrylic, never standard foam.
Teak / eucalyptusLuxury & garden loungersNaturally weather-resistant, premium look, ages to silver-grey.Heavier; FSC sourcing and occasional maintenance.
Resin / polypropyleneEntry-level, high-volume decksInexpensive, fully waterproof, easy to hose down and stack.Less premium feel; choose UV-stabilised grades to avoid brittleness.

Sling is the poolside workhorseFor most commercial pool decks, an anodised or marine-grade aluminium frame with a textilene sling is the durable default: no cushion to soak or store, fast to dry, and built to take chlorine season after season. Add cushions only where the comfort tier justifies the upkeep.

Where It Works

Sun Loungers By Venue

The right lounger changes with the deck it serves:

—  Resort pool deck: Stacking sling sun loungers in disciplined rows, with transit wheels for fast morning set-up and a premium cushioned tier on the prime sun line.

—  Hotel rooftop pool: Lightweight, low-profile loungers that handle wind and pack into a tight footprint; stackable for events.

—  Beach club: Folding and portable sun loungers and sunbeds that move with the service line and store compactly off-season.

—  Spa & wellness: Zero-gravity recliners and cushioned loungers in quiet relaxation zones, often under shade.

—  Garden & sun lawn: Wooden and teak loungers as a design feature on a landscaped sunbathing lawn.

Specification Guide

How to Specify Pool Loungers

Six checks our hospitality clients run before committing a lounger order.

1 — Default to chlorine- and UV-proof materials

Marine-grade aluminium frames and textilene sling are the poolside baseline. Add cushions only where the comfort tier justifies the upkeep, and always use quick-dry foam with solution-dyed acrylic.

2 — Specify stacking and wheels for labour

On any deck above ~40 loungers, stackability and transit wheels turn a multi-person morning set-up into a one-person job. This is an operating-cost decision, not a nice-to-have.

3 — Confirm the recline mechanism

The adjustable backrest is the part guests touch first and the part that fails first. Specify a robust multi-position mechanism rated for commercial cycles.

4 — Plan the deck layout, not just the count

Allow 25–40% for walkways and pool-edge clearance before counting loungers. Use the estimator above, then confirm against local pool-deck and accessibility rules.

5 — Build a premium tier for revenue

A row of cushioned loungers or double sunbeds on the prime sun line can be sold at a premium or as a rentable upgrade — specify a comfort tier deliberately.

6 — Order spares and keep your spec on file

Slings, cushions and glides wear. Order ~10–15% spare loungers and confirm replaceable slings and cushions, so the deck stays uniform for years instead of patched.

FAQ

Sun Lounger Questions

A contract sun lounger is built for constant occupancy and a brutal environment: marine-grade aluminium frames, chlorine- and UV-resistant textilene sling or quick-dry cushions, a commercial-rated recline mechanism, and replaceable parts. Residential sunloungers are made and priced for occasional home use and fail quickly under daily poolside duty.

They are largely the same product under different names: a reclining seat for sunbathing. "Sun lounger" and "sunbed" are common in the UK and Europe, "chaise lounge" and "pool lounge chair" in North America, and "sunlounge" or "banana lounge" elsewhere. All are covered by this range. The meaningful distinctions are by surface (sling vs cushioned), mechanism (fixed vs zero-gravity recliner) and material (aluminium, wood or teak).

Yes. Many models stack for off-season storage and event clearing, and rear transit wheels let a single attendant re-line a large deck each morning. On any deck above roughly 40 loungers, stacking and wheels are an operating-cost decision worth specifying from the start.

Yes. The range includes zero-gravity recliners (also searched as anti-gravity or no-gravity chairs) that lock into a near-weightless position for spa and relaxation areas, and twin-width double sun loungers for couples that add a premium, rentable option to a deck.

Rattan and wicker sun loungers are organised by material on the Rattan & Wicker Furniture page. The premium poolside tier — daybeds and cabanas — has its own Outdoor Daybeds & Cabanas page. This page focuses on aluminium, sling, wood and teak sun loungers and recliners.

The sun lounger range carries a 2-year contract warranty, with a typical 4–8 week lead time depending on quantity, finish and season. As the manufacturer we sell direct from our Istanbul factory and handle anything from a boutique pool to a multi-resort rollout, FOB from Türkiye or CIF to your nominated port.
