Overview

The hotel bathroom vanity unit — also called a hotel bathroom cupboard, under basin cabinet, or bathroom vanity cabinet — is the primary storage and design element in any hotel bathroom. It houses the plumbing, provides guest storage, and sets the visual quality level of the entire bathroom space. A well-specified hotel bathroom vanity with a quality countertop reads as luxury even in a 3-star property; a poorly constructed one with swollen doors or delaminating surfaces undermines the entire guest experience.

HFC manufactures hotel bathroom vanity units in three configurations: wall-hung vanity (floating, floor clear), freestanding vanity (on legs or plinth), and semi-recessed vanity (partially built into the wall for space efficiency). All are constructed with humidity resistant counter top as standard. Countertop options include quartz, marble, and granite.

All guest bathroom cabinets are manufactured to contract furniture standards. Custom width, depth, and door configuration available from 20 units. For hotel bathroom furniture packages combining vanity, mirror cabinet, and wall panels, we provide a single coordinated specification across all items.

Wall-hung floating vanity unit

Industry standard · 4-star and above

Wall-Hung Vanity Unit

A wall-hung bathroom vanity — also called a floating vanity or wall mounted bathroom vanity — is fixed to the wall with the floor completely clear beneath. This is the industry standard specification for 4-star and above hotel bathrooms. The clear floor makes the bathroom appear significantly larger, housekeeping is faster (no floor junction to clean around), and plumbing access is straightforward. In hotel bathroom design, the wall-hung vanity is the single change that most transforms a small bathroom from cramped to spacious.

Best for

4-star and 5-star hotels, boutique properties, and any bathroom where visual space is a priority. Particularly effective in bathrooms under 5m² — the clear floor visually enlarges the space by 15–20% in photography.

✓  Floor completely clear — faster housekeeping, no junction to clean

✓  Bathroom appears larger — significant effect in compact hotel bathrooms

✓  Plumbing accessible from below without removing the unit

✓  Standard mounting height: 580–640mm carcass bottom from floor

✓  Requires solid wall fixing — minimum 30kg rated brackets per unit

✓  Available with or without integrated drawers and internal shelf

✓  Push-to-open door face available — no visible handles for a minimal look

✓  Coordinated wall panels and mirror cabinet available in same finish

Installation requirement

Wall-hung vanity units require a structural wall capable of supporting minimum 60–80kg (unit + basin + water load). For lightweight partition walls, specify a concealed steel support frame (e.g. Geberit or equivalent) installed before tiling. HFC supplies technical drawings with every order to support your M&E contractor.

Hotel Bathroom Vanity Specifications

Counter top must be water resistant material. (NOT OPTIONAL)

Moisture typically affects melamine-faced MDF primarily at the interface between the PVC edge band and the MDF core. For the cabinet body and shelves of the vanity unit, using a high-performance moisture-resistant adhesive—such as Polyolefin or PU—is critical within the edge banding system. These materials are essential to prevent edge lifting, swelling, and long-term delamination in wet bathroom conditions — including all internal carcass surfaces, not just visible faces. In tropical climates above 70% ambient humidity, we recommend fully sealed internal surfaces for maximum longevity.

Dimensions

Standard single vanity: 600mm width is the minimum for a single basin; 800–900mm preferred at 4-star. Double vanity units from 1,200mm width for two basins — standard in suites and 5-star rooms. Carcass height 580–640mm brings basin rim to 850mm — the ergonomic standard. Vanity depth is typically 450–500mm for freestanding, 350–400mm for wall-hung versions. Custom dimensions available from 20 units.

Door & hardware

—  Soft-close hinges — Hettich or Blum, rated for 80,000+ cycles minimum for hotel use

—  Push-to-open — handle-free door face; contemporary clean look at 4-star and above

—  Recessed grip — minimal inset handle machined into the door face

—  Bar handle — chrome, brushed steel, or brass finish; traditional hotel specification

—  All hardware specified to commercial contract standards — not residential rated

Humidity & climate

Moisture exposure in melamine-faced MDF is most critical at the junction between the PVC edge band and the MDF core. In tropical and coastal climates—where ambient humidity often exceeds 70%—this becomes a major performance factor for long-term durability. For the cabinet body and shelves of bathroom vanities, the use of high-performance, moisture-resistant adhesives such as Polyolefin or PU within the edge banding system is essential. These bonding systems play a vital role in preventing edge lifting, swelling, and progressive delamination under humid and wet conditions.

Hotelier's Tip

When specifying bathroom vanities, consider the operational needs of your property:

•  Prioritize water/moisture-resistant materials for the top of the unit.

•  Pay close attention to the PVC edge banding adhesive system used on MDF panels. High-performance, moisture-resistant adhesives are essential to prevent edge lifting, swelling, and long-term delamination in wet conditions.

•  Wall-mounted vanities make floor cleaning faster and create a more spacious feel.

•  Integrated countertops reduce joints and seams, making cleaning easier and improving hygiene.

•  Ensure sufficient countertop space for guests’ personal items, especially in extended-stay and luxury properties.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A hotel bathroom vanity unit is the cabinet installed beneath the basin in a hotel bathroom — providing storage, housing plumbing, and setting the visual tone of the bathroom. Hotel vanity units differ from residential equivalents in their construction: moisture-resistant MDF carcass, commercial-grade hinges rated for 80,000+ cycles, and finishes that withstand daily cleaning with hotel housekeeping products. They are part of the broader hotel bathroom furniture specification alongside the mirror, mirror cabinet, and bathroom accessories.

Hotel bathroom cupboards must be manufactured from moisture-resistant MDF (MR-MDF) as a minimum. Standard MDF absorbs humidity and delaminates within 18–24 months in bathroom environments. For tropical climates above 70% ambient humidity, fully sealed internal surfaces are required. All internal carcass faces — not just visible external surfaces — must be moisture-resistant. HFC uses MR-MDF throughout as standard on all bathroom vanity units.

A wall-hung bathroom vanity is fixed to the wall with the floor beneath completely clear — easier to clean, the bathroom appears larger, and plumbing is accessible from below. A freestanding vanity sits on legs or a plinth. For hotel use, wall-hung vanity units are the industry standard at 4-star and above because the clear floor makes housekeeping faster and the bathroom appears more spacious in photography and in person.

Standard hotel bathroom vanity height is 850mm to the basin rim — the ergonomic standard for stand-up use. The vanity carcass is typically 580–640mm high with a 15–20mm countertop. Some luxury specifications use 900mm for a more contemporary proportion. Always coordinate vanity height with the basin specification before confirming dimensions — the basin depth affects the finished height.

Solid surface (Corian-type) is the most practical choice for 4-star hotel bathroom vanities — seamless, non-porous, and repairable in situ. Laminate is the best value choice for 3-star. Marble delivers the highest perceived quality for luxury properties but requires sealing and periodic maintenance. Granite offers natural stone aesthetics with better durability than marble. Use the countertop selector on this page for a full comparison.
